A Day of First's

It's August 1st with some other "first's".  A very exciting day!!!

The first Blackberry's, about 2 1/2 quarts and 4 Tomatoes.  And my first bee, small wasp, sting :(

Stupice Tomatoes win again.  This is the second year that Stupice has been the first to ripen.  They are a small sized fruit.  I started these, from seeds saved last year, in the middle of February.  It is a great variety for the Northwest.

We are very blessed to have wild Blackberry's in the perimeter of our property that are prolific.  We have to work to keep them out of the garden and yard.

Tonight's dinner will be fresh Green Beans and Onions from the garden, cooked with ham, Corn Bread....and for dessert, homemade Vanilla Custard Ice Cream topped with...Blackberries.  Yum!

I treated the Bee/Wasp Sting, immediately, with Plantain leaf. I macerated it, chewed up and placed right on the sting sight.  I applied the plantain twice and the "stinging" was gone with NO swelling.

Cornbread  Makes 8” pan
We love cornbread with soups, salads, chili, and even cold for breakfast with milk and a little sugar. Try to use freshly ground cornmeal and whole wheat flour for a fresher taste.

1 cup cornmeal
1 cup whole wheat flour
2 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1/3 cup oil
½ cup honey or sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup milk

Grease 8” square pan.  Mix dry ingredients thoroughly.  Add remaining ingredients.  Stir quickly and pour into pan.  Bake at 375’ for 20 minutes.
